Getting a Charger
Only compatible chargers work with the e:PROGRESS service. You must purchase your compatible charger through our installation partner, British Gas Local Heroes.
Very little, if any at all. Despite being an advanced technology, electric cars are remarkably simple to maintain and the same goes for chargers. However, if you do experience any issues, e:PROGRESS is here to support you. Included with our service is three years’ remote diagnostics and repairs. If an onsite visit is required or you experience any in-warranty issues, we’ll liaise with the installer and/or manufacturer on your behalf.
The location of the charger will depend on the distance from your consumer unit and the available power at your selected location. Our installation partner, British Gas, will advise you on the best location for your charger during your free, no obligation, home survey.
Complete this form to register for e:PROGRESS and receive your link to arrange your free, no obligation, home survey with our installer British Gas. You must purchase your compatible charger through British Gas.
Our installation partner, British Gas, will arrange a virtual survey of your property. This survey ensures that your charger can be safely installed and identifies any additional works that may be required. If your installation is complex you may require an in-person survey with your British Gas engineer.
After completing the registration form, you will receive an email with a link to arrange your survey. It takes up to one week to complete your survey and approximately three weeks to install your charger. Your installation may take longer than this if your property requires additional works, such as electrical upgrades, or if our installer is required to submit an application form for your property. An application form is required if your household load is close to the limit of your main fuse. Most agencies respond to applications within 1 – 4 weeks however, some agencies, such as Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) may be slower.
Your charger will charge any EV. However, you must have a compatible Honda EV to use e:PROGRESS and benefit from Intelligent Charging.
Savings and Costs
Your first year is free. After your first year, you’ll be charged £52 per year to benefit from Intelligent Charging.
We have calculated that Honda e drivers can save up to £400 per year by using e:PROGRESS intelligent charging. These savings are based on an average household energy consumption of 4200 kWh per year plus the energy consumed by a Honda e travelling 8,000 miles per year (22 miles per day) with an efficiency of 4 miles/kWh, or 2000 kWh. The monetary savings are calculated by comparing the cost of this energy when powered by Agile Octopus against a standard flat tariff with a rate of 17.4p/kWh and a standing charge of 25p/day. Tariff pricing for Agile Octopus is based on the past 12 months’ data (up to June 2021) for the London area. Vehicle charging costs are based on e:PROGRESS intelligent charging selecting the half-hourly periods with the lowest prices on the Agile Octopus tariff between 6pm and 6am each day. The vehicle charging rate is fixed at 6.6kW/h. Your savings will differ based on your household consumption, vehicle usage, driving style, and location.
You do not need to switch tariff. However, you should consider switching to a dynamic or dual rate tariff to receive the maximum savings from e:PROGRESS.
The Agile Octopus tariff offers a different price for electricity every half an hour and is linked to the wholesale market.
By using the Agile Octopus tariff, you benefit from negative market pricing meaning you can be paid to charge your car! Your Intelligent Charging plan will automatically select the lowest cost times to charge your car.
Octopus Go offers four hours of low cost electricity between 00:30 and 04:30, every day. Octopus Go is an example of a dual rate tariff, other dual rate tariffs are available.
To switch tariff, contact your new energy provider.
Your tariff switch will complete in six days under the Energy Switch Guarantee.
If you have a flat rate tariff, such as the price capped Standard Variable Tariff, you can still benefit from e:PROGRESS. You can optimise your charging for the cleanest and greenest times, when the renewable generation is high, or you can connect your solar panels to charge when the sun is shining.
You will receive the maximum benefit from Intelligent Charging by switching to a dynamic or dual rate tariff.
Your Intelligent Charging plan will automatically schedule your charging for the lowest cost off peak period of your dual rate tariff.
e:PROGRESS links to your dynamic tariff to automatically schedule your charging at the lowest cost times. You do not need to manually check prices or manage your schedule, simply keep your vehicle connected when it is not in use and e:PROGRESS will automatically generate your Intelligent Charging plans for you.
You do not need a smart meter to use e:PROGRESS. However, you may need a smart meter to be eligible for a dual rate or dynamic tariff. Contact your energy provider for more information.
